MAHAMA'S DRAFT BILL ON CODE OF CONDUCT OF PUBLIC OFFICERS MUST BE PASSED- LAWYER ACE ANKOMAH.

A member of the OCCUPYGHANA group Lawyer Ace Ankomah has called on the Akufo-Addo government to immediately pass President Mahama's draft bill on code of conduct for public officers. Lawyer Ankomah was commenting on breach of procurement laws and corruption in the current administration. Speaking on Joy FM's Newfile talk show, the lawyer Ankomah said, "Npp is putting up a brick wall against the fight against corruption". He challenged  the President and his ministers to immediately declare their assets publicly and not in sealed envelopes. Mr Emile Short who was on the same programme, supported Mr Ankomah's call. He called on the Akufo-Addo government to pass President Mahama's draft bill on code of conduct for public officers if the President genuinely wants to fight corruption.

In opposition President Akufo-Addo promised Ghanaians he will end corruption in all government institutions if he is elected. But in office, he seems to be dancing around that promise while his own cabinet is filled with people accused of corruption with other appointees embarking on fraudulent deals. Within the last eleven months, Ghanaians have been confronted with messy revelations that give credence to the positions expressed by Mr Ace Ankomah and Mr Emile Short on the programme. The President himself per his actions and shielding tactics can best be described as the life patron of corruption in his administration and his party.

President Mahama relieved some of his high profile appointees of their duties because of allegations of breach of procurement laws and reckless pronouncements. But here we are in this government headed by Nana Akufo-Addo, Mr Alfred Obeng was accused of selling contaminated fuel to unlicensed marketing companies, a committee constituted by the sector minister to investigate him, was disbanded by the President. He was cleared based on a bogus report by the BNI. The Finance Minister and his wife in collaboration with his business associates issued a fraudulent $2.25 billion bond on behalf of the state. He was hailed by the President who described him as the best finance minister ever. His two deputy chiefs of staffs were accused by one of the President's henchmen A-plus of corruption. The CID officer was caught on tape confirming the allegation but the president buried the report and cleared them. His nephew was accused of taking bribes ranging between $20,000 and $30,000 from people who request to see the president but the president rubbished the allegation. His fisheries minister was fingered in acts of corruption, no action. His Vice President was linked to the $15 million digital addressing system scandal no action, we are yet to hear the President on the famous 800,000 website installation scandal. The BOST boss has been cited in another mind boggling scandal but the President has zipped his mouth, 27 million cedis used cut grasses no action.

Technically, 2016 marked the most improvement Ghana has ever made since Transparency International began publishing the annual corruption perception index. Transparency International took note of Mahama administration's policies that reduced significantly corruption in our procurement system, which weeded out ghost names and the fact that the President against all odds, fired his appointees mentioned in corruption scandals.
